UGC is allowing to sell degrees in India so Ministry of HRD as well as state government

Hi Friends,

This is in response to a mail receive from Amitabh Thakurji, who is fighting battle with Amity. He is an IPS officer on leave, IIM Lucknow scholar and a social activist. 

First of all UGC is a useless body. Yes, UGC is empowered to recognize and de-recognize university but it never does so.

If any university established through a state legislature or by an Act of Parliament, it automatically give recognition even with the fact that most of them are useless.

I am fighting a long and lone battle for this. DEC which is supposed to maintain quality and standard in distance education give recognition to anyone even those who are not university.

Further, UGC has given recogntion to private universities but out of them except Azim Premji University, Jindal University and Shiv Nadar University, everybody is in the money making game- offering low standard and low quality courses and in fact selling the degree.

When such type of mushrooming of private university happened in Chhatisgarh (Where through a single state legislature Act, CG government allowed to open shops of private universities in Chhatisgarh) prof. Yashpal filed a PIL in Supreme Court of India and Supreme court declared all of these universities as invalid.

Then the different state government came with a new way in form of corruption in establishing private universities i.e. they started individual Act in state legislature and allowed private universities. Most surprisingly in the state where education is most backward, many private universities have come there. They are Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Chhatisgarh again, Mizoram, UP etc.

Unfortunately nobody have paid attention to it. It is also another kind of scam going in crores of rupees and it is producing just degrees, no knowledge, nothing else.
