Independence day is just few days away and we are here to celebrate. Many things have changed these years. I remember flag hosting ceremony in my area in childhood and that was a very different experience. I feel the love for the nation and to do something for nation has died in today's you i.e. We- the people. In this article, I am mentioning few of the songs I loved. They are related to nation , us and how definitely motivate us.
1. Jagao Mere Desh ko- Coke Studio A R Rahman
This may not be a song praising the nation but it tells my view about the nation. View of every Indian what type of India we want or to anybody from the world who can imagine an ideal state. Originally written by Shri rabindranath Tagore, this poem ask about awakening the nation. Yes, we have read this poetry in our school. In this coke studio album, it is sung in Bangla as well as Hindi. It is heart touching and definitely motivating. Hopeful.
2. Maa Tujhe Salam
I was in my high school when I heard this song first time in Sony Entertainment Television and it was so enchanting, so inspiring, I immediately purchased the cassette. Its lyrics, music, visual everything still inspire me. The whole album is superb and I love. Not only Indian, every human being who love their nation must watch and listen this song. It definitely stimulates our love for motherland. Hats off to Sony Music and the Great A R Rahman as well as Bharatbala production for such a masterpiece.
3. Vande Mataram- Lata Mangeshkar and A R Rahman
Another hats off to Bharatbala production. a good combination of Bharatbala, A R Rahman and the great Lata Mangeshkar. It is modified version of original Vande Mataram by shri Bankimchandra Chatopadhyay. I still favour Vande Mataram over Jana Gana Man. A must to be listened.
4. Vande Mataram- Shubha Mudgal and A R Rahman
Another hats off to Bharatbala production. a good combination. This is original Vande Mataram in Sanskrit rendered by another great singer Shubha Mudgalji. If you do not know meaning of Vande Mataram in Sanskrit, the full lyrics, you should search over internet. A sperb song.
3. Bharat Humko Jaan – Roja
Its all about being proud to be an Indian, to love one's motherland. (Bharat Humko Jan se pyara hai, sabse pyara Gulistan hamara hai.Hindustani nam hamara hai, Sabse pyara desh hamara hai. you will simply love it). So lovely in the voice of Hariharanji and another masterpiece from A R Rahman

4. Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera – Swades
I do not remember how many times I have watched this movie, specially this song- it is heart touching. Again in the voice and music of A R Rahman.
5. Des Rangeela – Fanaa
Another nice song from movie Fanaa.
6. Tum Chalo to Hindustan Chale – Shankar Mahadevan
More than listening, you need to watch this song. Although lesser, known, it is inspiring
7. Mile Sur Mera Tumhara to sur bane hamara
Remember this old DD song! I cannot forget. More than patriotic, I will term it as a song of national harmony. Sur Ki Nadiya, har disha se, bahte sagar me mile, Badlon ka roop lekar b, arse halke halke. What a meaning! what a song. You will find whole India in this song, music, artist everything. I simply love it.
8. Desh Mere Desh Mere – The Legend Of Bhagat Singh
Nothing can inspire more than this song. Patriotic, loving, superb, inspiring. Salute to the great martyr Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Chandrahekhar Azad. Coincidentally, music director for this is again A R Rahman only.
9. Sarfaroshi ki tamanna
So inspiring, this song boil every youth, every patriot's blood. This is from Rang de Basanti but you will find many version of it. The great freedom fighter Ramprasad Bismil wrote this. Salute to him.
The Poem
The desire for revolution is in our hearts
Let us see what strength there is in the arms of our executioner
Why do you remain silent thus?
Whoever I see, is gathered quiet so...
O martyr of country, of nation, I submit myself to thee
For yet even the enemy speaks of thy courage
The desire for struggle is in our hearts...
When the time comes, we shall show thee, O heaven
For why should we tell thee now, what lurks in our hearts?
We have been dragged to service, by the hope of blood, of vengeance
Yea, by our love for nation divine, we go to the streets of the enemy
The desire for struggle is in our hearts...
Armed does the enemy sit, ready to open fire
Ready too are we, our bosoms thrust out to him
With blood we shall play Holi, if our nation need us
The desire for struggle is in our hearts...
No sword can sever hands that have the heat of battle within,
No threat can bow heads that have risen so...
Yea, for in our insides has risen a flame,
and the desire for struggle is in our hearts...
Set we out from our homes, our heads shrouded with cloth,
Taking our lives in our hands, do we march so...
In our assembly of death, life is now but a guest
The desire for struggle is in our hearts...
Stands the enemy in the gallows thus, asking,
Does anyone wish to bear testimony?...
With a host of storms in our heart, and with revolution in our breath,
We shall knock the enemy cold, and no one shall stop us...
What is that body that does not have hot blood in it,
How can a person conquer a Typhoon while sitting in a boat near the shore.
The desire for struggle is in our hearts,
We shall now see what strength there is in the boughs of the enemy.
10. Mera Rang De Basanti – The Legend Of Bhagat Singh
rang de basanti, ("paint me yellow") it means that person is ready to be sacrificed for a great cause. The song is much to inspire. This song in Sonu Nigam's voice much to be remembered.
10. Mere desh ki dharati sona ugale, ugale moti
A classic, praise our beloved mother land from the movie Upkar
Wish we all Indian a very happy independence day. In Bhagat Singh's word, even under current condition if we get independence from British, we will just have power transfer, no true freedom. Thats true. We just had power transfer, freedom yet to achieve. But together, we can bring change.
Vande mataram.
