Hello Friends,
Independence day is near and I felt to write on this. I read two books about The great patriot and Indian freedom fighter, the great martyr Bhagat Singh.
He is inspiration for every single patriots in India and the world who love their nation.
Bhagat Singh was born on September 27, 1907 in a small village, Banga in western Punjab. On that very day, his father and his two uncles—all anti-colonial revolutionaries—were released from prison. He was, therefore, nicknamed “Bhagonwala”—the one who brings good luck.
The Jallianwala massacre happened in 1919 when he was barely twelve years old. But Bhagat Singh never forgot or forgave this. Hardly eighteen, he founded Naujwan Bharat Sabha, a radical organization, propogating socialist ideas. Its activities were confined to the Punjab. The Sabha believed that the British could be driven out only by direct action.
In the school, we had been taught a full book on Indian revolution. It had 90% coverage for congress and rest 10% for the revolt of 1857, which could throw out British from India and few pages about Netaji, Rasbihari Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and other revolutionaries.
It was telling just Gandhi Nehru and Congress. It even did not pay much details about Lokmanya Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpatrai and other great true freedom fighters. In fact, congress never demanded independence, they just needed power.
Bhagat Singh had got hardly 1 page but you know, when something attract us, we do find it eventually. Today's generation respect Bhagat Singh more than Gandhi and no doubt Nehru do not get enough respect. At least I do not.
Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Surya Sen, Kalpana Dutta, Pritilata Vaddeddar, Rasbihari Bose and many such many names truly sacrificed their life to free India from anarchy British rule. Congress, in other hand were enjoying their partnership and acting as an agent. In fact, before Lahore Session of congress in 1931 (26 January), congress never demanded complete independence. It was Bhagat Singh whose growing popularity even after his martyrdom forced congress to demand it first time complete independence otherwise congress would have finished by that time only.
Salute from heart to all such martyr and true patriots. Here is few of the quotes from the great leader, youth icon, inspiration for million Indian and patriot Bhagat Singh.
On this independence, I recommend everybody to read following books
The Jail note of Bhagat Singh

Without fear- Life and Trail of Bhagat Singh by Kuldeep Nayar
I purchased this book from NBT, a government of India enterprises, may not be available now. A good book to understand in details about the trial, how Bhagat Singh defended himself and his friends.
in past years, many movies were made on Bhagat Singh. In 2002 too, there were many movies came. However, the effective which can impress our mind is- The Legend of Bhagat Singh by rajkumar Santoshi. One must watch this to understand that why I respect him and why should we respect him over congress.
"It takes a loud voice to make the deaf hear, with these immortal words uttered on a similar occasion by Valiant, a French anarchist martyr, do we strongly justify this action of ours."
"Long Live the Revolution."
“Zindgi to apne damm par hi jiyi jati hey..dusro k kandhe par tohh shirf janaje uthaye jate hey.”
― Bhagat Singh
Translation (may not be fully accurate): Life should be lived on our own and we should depend on other shoulder's only after our death.
-Bhagat Singh
or
“LIFE IS LIVE ITS OWN..OTHERS HELP IS NEEDED IN FUNERALS ONLY”
“The aim of life is no more to control the mind, but to develop it harmoniously; not to achieve salvation here after, but to make the best use of it here below; and not to realise truth, beauty and good only in contemplation, but also in the actual experience of daily life; social progress depends not upon the ennoblement of the few but on the enrichment of democracy; universal brotherhood can be achieved only when there is an equality of opportunity - of opportunity in the social, political and individual life.— - from Bhagat Singh's prison diary, p. 124”
“Lovers, Lunatics and poets are made of same stuff.”
Every tiny molecule of Ash is in motion with my heat
I am such a Lunatic that I am free even in Jail.- from Bhagat Singh's prison diary
One should not interpret the word “Revolution” in its literal sense. Various meanings and significances are attributed to this word, according to the interests of those who use or misuse it. For the established agencies of exploitation it conjures up a feeling of blood stained horror. To the revolutionaries it is a sacred phrase.
Revolution did not necessarily involve sanguinary strife. It was not a cult of bomb and pistol. They may sometimes be mere means for its achievement. No doubt they play a prominent part in some movements, but they do not — for that very reason — become one and the same thing. A rebellion is not a revolution. It may ultimately lead to that end.
The sense in which the word Revolution is used in that phrase, is the spirit, the longing for a change for the better. The people generally get accustomed to the established order of things and begin to tremble at the very idea of a change. It is this lethargical spirit that needs be replaced by the revolutionary spirit. Otherwise degeneration gains the upper hand and the whole humanity is led stray by the reactionary forces. Such a state of affairs leads to stagnation and paralysis in human progress. The spirit of Revolution should always permeate the soul of humanity, so that the reactionary forces may not accumulate to check its eternal onward march. Old order should change, always and ever, yielding place to new, so that one “good” order may not corrupt the world. It is in this sense that we raise the shout “Long Live Revolution.”
Any man who stands for progress has to criticize, disbelieve and challenge every item of the old faith. Item by item he has to reason out every nook and corner of the prevailing faith. If after considerable reasoning one is led to believe in any theory or philosophy, his faith is welcomed. His reasoning can be mistaken, wrong, misled and sometimes fallacious. But he is liable to correction because reason is the guiding star of his life. But mere faith and blind faith is dangerous: it dulls the brain, and makes a man reactionary.
I emphasize that I am full of ambition and hope and of full charm of life. But I can renounce all at the time of need, and that is the real sacrifice. These things can never be hinderance in the way of man, provided he be a man. You will have the practical proof in the near future. From selected writings of Shaheed Bhagat Singh (1986), p. 65
The bomb was necessary to awaken England from her dreams. We dropped the bomb on the floor of the assembly chamber to register our protest on behalf of those who had no other means left to give expression to their heart-rending agony. Our sole purpose was to make the deaf hear and give the heedless a timely warning. Others have as keenly felt as we have done and from such seeming stillness of the sea of Indian humanity, a veritable storm is about to break out. - As Quoted in B. R. Agarwala (1991). Trials of Independence. National Book Trust, India. p. 128.
Non-violence is backed by the theory of soul-force in which suffering is courted in the hope of ultimately winning over the opponent. But what happens when such an attempt fail to achieve the object? It is here that soul-force has to be combined with physical force so as not to remain at the mercy of tyrannical and ruthless enemy. As quoted in The Sikh Review, Vol. 55 (2007), p. 173
Bombs and pistols do not make a revolution. The sword of revolution is sharpened on the whetting-stone of ideas
I hope on this independence day, we will not forget what these great leaders including Bhagat Singh did for our nation. I hope this will awaken us and at least. think us to do something for our nation.
