Remember the day when people used to use Luna- The moped of India with chain and paddle. Sometime, I used to wonder that the Luna must be a good option so if there will be no Petrol, people can use it as a cycle.
For Local use, I was thinking to buy a moped and after lot of searching, I came to know about TVS XL Super and TVS XL HD.
I am basically a cost conscious person. I could afford even a bullet but as per my need assessment, I needed a low maintenance, durable, good mileage scooter and I found that at that time, Activa, Mahindra Duro or any other do not meet to my satisfaction.
1. Its small tyre used to scare me. I wanted to buy it for my father and particularly during rainy season, I did not want any problem. Further, I wanted mileage too (Activa and other scooter was costing around Rs. 58000 and average mileage was 35 KMPL) then I finally fixed eye on TVS Super XL and booked it on 03.12.2012 and bought it on 10.12.2012
Following is the model and colour I bought

Description:
Drawbacks
1. Look: You may feel "ashamed" to ride a moped and it may look "cheap" but in city like Mumbai also it is becoming popular and now I am seeing many such vehicles in posh locality like Bandra and Santacruz.
2. Speed: During initial 1000 KMS you cannot ride it more than 30 KMPH. Which is another drawback about the speed and sometime boring.
3. Engine: If you ride in speed of 50KM and more, its vibrate a lot. If you suddenly try to climb high elevation, that is something difficult.
Positive:
1. Durability: Actually it is a low maintenance bike, during last 5 months usage, I have hardly incurred any cost except the petrol cost and cost to add accessories and changing oils.
2. Easy to handle: It is very easy to ride, comfortable, with lot of space and the people who want to carry goods, they can remove the back seat and can use it as a carrier.
3. Safe: It is safe specially when roads are not in good conditions and during rainy season.
4. Mileage: During initial 1000 KMS it gave mileage of 35 KMPL but after that if you do regular servicing and maintenance, it easily give mileage of 55-60 KMPL even in the city.
5. No gear: Since it does not have the gear and both the brakes are on front, it is very easy to ride.
6. Load: It can bear good load (despite of having lower engine), I travelled with a pillion weighing 95 KGs and it was perfectly working.
Price: On road price in Mumbai is Rs. 32,500. It is much better than spending 58000 on scooter if you are using it for local purpose only and you are not looking for look and simply not caring people. You can use the saved money on petrol and it is a utility vehicle with good return on investment
