How to get back your stolen mobile

Hi,
In country like India where police is least bothered to take complaint of your mobile phone theft (they never register FIR for anything stolen whether laptop or mobile or any such other valuable items. I have personally experienced and spent 8 hours in police station to simply get the FIR of 3 pages and that's too when personally secretary of a cabinet minister called the police station and after making round of two police stations).

Today, mobile contains valuable data including phone book, photos and when you are using it for official purpose, it might contain confidential mail and documents. In this case you need to take care of your phone. Apart from this mobile banking applications are also installed in most of the phone which is again very sensitive.

I lost my one of the android phone within 3 months of purchase then I realise that how much care of phone I need to take. On new phone I tried few trackers but they were useless. Thieves are so smart that they can erase your entire data so you need to have an external and secure application.

Then I installed AVG antivirus through Google play store. I found this application worth. It is an anti virus application which comes with mobile security feature. With this feature you can log into www.avgmobility.com with your Google id and password linked to play store.

There you can do following activities:
1. You can lock your phone which you can unlock only by login into avg mobility site or by sending SMS to specific no code assigned to you.
2. You can erase the entire mobile data
3. You can track current location of your phone.

Mine is dual sim android 4.1 handset. I did following thing to check its usefulness.

1. I swaped the SIM card.
Immediately I did it, I got an email to my mail Id mentioning that my SIM has been changed. Not only this, it also provided details of new Telecom service provider including name, circle and serial no. Of the SIM. Fantastic
it also provided link to avg mobility website and instructions what do I need to do there. It also provided SMS code in case I do not have internet access so I could send SMS from other mobile to block phone, erase data and to find out current location of the phone.

2. I logged into avg mobility website and clicked on current location of the phone. It accurately showed near Rama Krishna Mission, Santacruz (w), Mumbai.

I did not perform erasing data and locking phone as I could not take that big risk.

This application is free but very helpful.
On the basis of it, you can go to the police and can insist them to find out your phone with the details of SIM card number and service provider details. On the basis of this in short span of time police can get name and address of the user.
If police does not listen you can mail those details to police commissioner and superintendent of the police. If they still do not reply, you can file an RTI application nd ask status of your complaint.

By this you may get your phone back but for sure you will protect your data and can make your handset useless for the thieves and buyer from such thieves.

Since I have used AVG so explained here about its usefulness. You may go to internet or Google play store and search more such free anti virus and mobile security devices.

I would love to hear your comments and questions.
