petition against coal mining

Hi Govind,
Act now to protect the forests
It steals and it kills. Coal has done more harm than good. Right now, I am on my way to visit some of the forests in Central India, that face the threat of destruction from coal mining.
So far we’ve got over 27,000 signatures asking the Prime Minister to protect our forests. We’re well on our way to 100,000. But October’s close but we need to move faster. The fastest way is to share the petition with your friends.
Watch the first in the series of videos that chronicles my journey and share it with your friends to get them to sign the petition as well.
Sharing via the internet has proven to be very successful in the past. People in Egypt and Tunisia overthrew oppressive regimes with the help of Twitter and Facebook. We can do this too and have a success story of our own.
Dependence on coal was one of the factors responsible for the power blackout last week. Coal power plants produce a fixed amount of energy and can’t meet sudden increase in demand for energy. This caused the grid, to collapse. In spite of this the Government is running after this unreliable resource.
We have time only till October to get to 100,000 signatures and convince the PM about saving the forests from coal mining. Here’s why:
  • The PM is hosting a United Nations Convention on Bio-diversity in October.
  • We’ll give him this petition in front of the entire world at this conference.
  • 100,000 people asking the PM to save the forests, when he’s discussing conservation with the entire world, will put pressureon him to make a commitment.
  • Protecting forests will no longer be a fight between ministries. It will be a commitment made to the world, and not fulfilling it will hurt the reputation of the PM and our country.
Share the petition with your friends and make our chances of winning this campaign stronger.
Thanks!
