Hello Friends,
so for last one week we are reading various news about government's directive to take prior approval of RBI and ministry of external affairs permission before accepting foreign contribution/ donation.
Few newspaper agencies did not prefer to write openly about it however, The Economic Times preferred to come in support of Economic Times and even posted an article supporting Greenpeace India.
This is completely unfortunate that government want to cut down any voice against its policy. I can understand that the UPA government had vested interest to do so. Why do Narendra Modi Government need to do so.
Let us understand the whole scenario.
What is Greenpeace and Greenpeace India?
Greenpeace is a not for profit NGO mainly working in the area of environment protection, protecting environment and fighting to save the planet. They fight against any action which creates harm to our environment. Imagine, these are the people who fight to make sure that they live the natural way of life. They are not against technology or want to take us backward. They accept everything if it does not harm and pollute our environment.
I have volunteered them once and perhaps the only NGO to whom I am regularly contributing. Because, I believe they are doing something good for the mankind.
Greenpeace is the NGO who does not take any contribution from the government or from any corporate houses. They have a very clear philosophy, the moment they start accepting donation from corporate bodies and government, they will not be able to protest their wrong decision/ wrong policy impacting the environment.
They are not the road chhap, MNC sponsored, government supported NGO who start protesting on road. They clearly identify key issues, make a long term plan related to the same and then start fighting against it. You will not find them protesting against everything.
In India, they are working on following cause
Protest against nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu.
India has much more natural resources to produce clean and renewable energy without displacing the people. We know very well the impact of nuclear radiation and we have recently seen its impact in Japan too.
We talk about pollution and spend thousands to get safe drinking water, safe organic food, buy machines to remove pesticides from fruits and vegetables. We talk about danger of radiation then can we believe that a global organization who is fighting against all these evils are funded from an alien country?
Greenpeace has responded to India’s Intelligence Bureau (IB)’s leaked report. You may read it by clicking following link
Greenpeace justify to have a civic society and I openly support to it
10 reasons we need civil society:
1. India would still be a British colony and Indians would be second class citizens in their own land
2. Because if it were not for civil society and legitimate protest, South Africa would still be ruled by a racist apartheid government, slavery would still exist and women would not be allowed to vote
3. Because without civil society, the world’s nuclear powers would still be using the planet’s oceans and atmosphere as a testing ground for their atomic bombs
4. Because without civil society, India would not have a Right to Information Act, the single most powerful tool to check corruption
5. Because without civil society, trophy hunters would have wiped out India's lions, tigers and leopards decades ago.
6. Because without civil society, untouchability would still be legally permissible in India
7. Because without civil society, widows would still be expected to commit sati on their husbands funeral pyres
8. Because without civil society, we would still accept corruption as an inevitable part of India
9. Because without civil society, widow remarriage would still be frowned upon and dowry would still be widely accepted and legally protected
10. Because without civil society, awareness about children's rights--ranging from child labour to child sexual abuse-would still be swept under the carpet.
Earlier, I have posted articles about Greenpeace. You may read it at:
So, the biggest question is who prompted IB, Government to issue such notices?
We assume that Narendra Modi lead BJP/ NDA Government is pro national, nationalist and pro people. The immediate action after coming into the power was not expected. The whole action looks like premeditated and biased. How can be protesting against Monsanto, coal mafias wrong? Is government forced by MNCs playing with people's life and protecting interest of coal mafia? Can Government really supres voice of people
We also need progress and economic growth but not at the cost of harming our environment and at least I do not believe that greenpiece is blocking our economic growth.
Lets look into it, lets introspect, lets we ask government to think about its decision.
