If you look at these links, it provides institute's name, courses, their reputation, DEC approval and other related information.
Kerala, popular for its quality education also have few universities offering courses through distance learning mode. Maharashtra is more focused on providing education, Tamil Nadu more focused on revenue generation through offering distance learning courses in India and beyond India with few universities providing quality courses. In Kerala, I do not find unique courses but advantage will be the reputation of university, courses in Malayalam and a sense of getting connected to Kerala.

Information about the university: This is the state government of university and should not be get confused with Mahatma Gandhi University Shillong. The Shillong one is degree mill, selling degrees for money and already under court and DEC scanner. This is one of the well known university in Kerala. The good thing is that this university (Maahatma Gandhi University Kottayam) offers choice based credit system in distance learning too.

The University of Kerala, formerly the University of Travancore, is an affiliating state government university located in Trivandrum in the state of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937, long before the birth of the state of Kerala in India, by a promulgation of the Maharaja of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university. Sir C. P. Ramaswami Iyer, the then Diwan of the State, was the first Vice-Chancellor. The University of Calicut is an affiliating university located at Thenjipalam, Malappuram in the southern state of Kerala in India. The University has a number of off-campus centres in neighboring districts and it conducts courses and examinations for the students of the affiliated colleges. The main campus in Thenjipalam has departments in most of the science and humanities areas. The departments offer post graduate courses and research programmes. However, the main business in the campus is administration and conduct of examinations for all the affiliated colleges which number above 250. It offers various courses.
