India's open border with Nepal- is it a serious national security threat for India

Hi,
Before starting to write about the subject topic I would like to clarify that I am not against India's open border with Nepal in fact I strongly believe that India and Nepal never should have been two separate countries as both have same language same culture same ethnicity and before 1947 was a Part of Bharatvarsha or hindustan.

Now without talking more about above things I would like to express my feelings on the key issue. India and Nepal has a friendly relation and as per friendship treaty citizen of both countries have unrestricted access of the country. For citizen of both countries moving to each other's territory is like moving from one city to another. Moreover it is like you are moving to another Hindi speaking state. Indian can use Indian currency like Nepali currency there. People can easily speak Hindi and culture, festivals and celebrations happens as like any part of India. Bollywood movies are released across rhe theater with same date as in India and people love bollywood movies and music more than Nepali movies. People watch Saas Bahu serials. People have similar look (mind it, all nepalese don't look like chinese. Our north east people, tibetans also like that but its all due to geographic reason. These all are the positive picture and in my understanding Nepal is nothing more than a fully autonomous state of India as Hong Kong is of china.

Now let's see the other side, the main problem of open border. People from both countries by road have access and Nepalese are even allowed to apply for various government job under Union and State government in India including civil services. Due to the open border and free access it has created a serious threat to human and specially national security of India and problem for both countries. It is also responsible for human trafficking. Let me illustrate all points

 1. India's open border with Nepal is threat to our national security : if you see Indian, Nepalese Pakistanis, Srilankan and Bangladeshis looks alike and even language has similarities. For a palistani it may not be easier to get entry to India without suspicion and same applies to Bangladeshis too. However once they go to Nepal they can easily enter to India Believe me, due to look no questions, passports or identities are asked in the border so even without proper document people can enter. I am seeing it as a serious threat for our national security. Possibly we are waiting something big to happen. If we claim that all verification happena, it happens just on paper.

 2. Big human trafficking issue: Many Nepalese girls are lured for love and job and love, their life ends in brothel of different part of the nation. Its a big syndicate and a well organised trade and nexus between Nepalese and Indian pimps, police at both countries, BSF and Nepal army. Although at some posts documents are verified but that can be too faked. Do we have a solution? Yes of course we have. It is very simple. I am never in favour of cancelling this benefit which makes these two countries two different countries but we must have a process.

Solution

 1. Passport or citizenship identity card must be there to travel in either of the country.

 2. There must be a registration form to enter either of the country (I mean to say to enter in India as well as in Nepal) and in registration form their native address, address of visiting location, purpose, duration of stay contact person's name and address contact no must be mentioned.

 3. If a girl or a woman is travelling immediately call to the police station where she intends to visit should be made and should be alllowed only after confirmation.

 4. It should be made compulsory to carry registration certificate with photo duly attested by concerned official. The registration no should ne verifiable online. 4. There should not be time limit for stay to any of the subject either side. I believe this will solve the concern at larger scale

  1. i agree to all the concern tat u hav raise. i hav personaly exp. this as my village in bihar is jst few hrs away from nepal. there is an open border with absolutely no security force around. u can go in the morning roam around, do shopping n all and return by evening. have all so heard to stories like ppl smugling drugs, kidnapping of children, human trafficking to name a few. there is definately an urgency to look into this matterneed before something like Assam situation araises.

  2. Hi Sunita

Thanks a lot for your time to read my blog and posting
    Yes, I agree to you.
    My major concern is
    1. We do not have threat from each other as we both are one (India and Nepal), we have threat from Bangladeshi and Pakistanis (only those who wants to spread terror ), they can enter either of the country and when there is no verification (Sorry, I did not ad in posting, verification should happen at both side)under pseudo identity they can enter either side of the country.
    2. Human trafficking of poor girl. This must stop. All deserve to live life with dignity and the flesh trade has made their life hell.
