Universities offering distance learning courses in India-Odisha

Hello Friends,

This is my 17th post in the series of distance learning education in India. through each such post, I have been explaining everyone of you the approved universities in India. Through this blogposts, I have been providing information about territorial jurisdiction of every university, all the courses they are offering till the time of posting the blog and whether the university is involved in any controversies, degree scams etc.

Odisha, again a backward state and a state not developed much in the education sector. However, in the past, its Utkal university was in limelight as one of its student Roopa Mishra topped UPSC civil services exam. There are 6 universities in Orissa / Odisha offering distance learning courses and Utkal University tops them.

Reputation: One of the well known university.

Information about the university: 
The Berhampur University came into existence on 2nd January 1967 being inaugurated by Dr. A.N. Khosla, the then Governor of Orissa and the first Chancellor of the University. The University was later shifted to the present site known as Bhanja Bihar, named after the celebrated poet of Orissa Kabisamrat Upendra Bhanja. Spreading over an area of about two hundred fifty acres the university is twelve kilometres and 5 kilometers away from the Berhampur City and Sea-beach of Gopalpur respectively. This university is offering various courses in distance mode and they looks good, career oriented as well as traditional.

Information about the university: 
The Utkal University, established in the year 1943, is the seventeenth oldest University in India. Its present campus at Vani Vihar, BHUBANESWAR is located on a sprawling 399.9 Acre area in the heart of BHUBANESWAR. It is one of the most prestigious university in the state and well recognized by UGC.

The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on 10th December, 1966 to fulfill long cherished dream of the people of Western Odisha for establishment of a University. The University started functioning from 1st January, 1967.

Information about the university: 
Fakir Mohan University, Vyasa Vihar, Balasore Orissa was established by the Govt. of Orissa under Section 32 of the Orissa University Act, 1989(Act 5 of 1989)and it was notified vide the Government’s Notification No. 973 dated 3rd July, 1999. The University has also been duly recognized by the UGC Under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act vide the Notification No. F–9–1/2000 (CPP–I) dated 11 Feb, 2000

Territory and jurisdiction according to UGC :Entire state of the Orissa but as per the Act

Territorial Jurisdiction as per the  University Act: : Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar district

Information about the university: 
The Government of Orissa under the section 32 of the Orissa University Act, 1989 (Act 5 of 1989), established the North Orissa University and notified vide notification No.880 dated 13th July 1998. The University is included in the list of Universities maintained under section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act 1956, to impart higher education in the Tribal base area of North Orissa. The jurisdiction of the University extends over two Districts, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. North Orissa University was established with the objectives of providing quality professional education to all sections of students. With the advent of liberalization since 1991, the Central and State Government are seriously reviewing and evaluating the State of Higher Education especially in emerging fields. There is a marked shift in Government’s approach from regular campus higher education to higher education through distance learning mode.

    does university provide BA LLB through distance education in India, which is fully recognised?

      As per the directives from the Bar Council of India, only a full time law graduate from a bar council of India approved institutes are allowed to do practice. so, the distance learning programme are not eligible to practice and teaching.
