On November 24, 1969, Guru Nanak Dev University was established in Amritsar to celebrate the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The University is both a residential and an affiliating university of Punjab. This is first University of North India to get the highest Five Star Level Status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has also been selected by UGC for Centre of Excellence in sports considering its praiseworthy achievements in sports. This seems to be a good university as I have not seen it is advertising to admit any centre or anybody. further, it has restricted number of seats in each courses which seems to be a quality maintenance measure.

Information about the university:
This is a private university but approved. Its name look funny (lovely), it spends a lot on advertisement. Definitely this university is meant for commercialisation of education i.e. earning money but it has started building its brand. One of its ex-faculty recently interacted with me in my professional blog and explained that the quality and everything at LPU is much better than even top branded universities in India but due to a new thing and lacking in the market brand reputation it is not getting that much placement (I agree to him on point that even if a branded institute does not provide quality, its student gets unfair advantage).

Any controversy: Yes, First of all as per earlier DEC and fresh UGC guideline, private universities cannot offer any course outside the city where they are situated. Such degree becomes invalid for higher education as well as public sector job. LPU is a private university so it should not offer any courses outside Phagwara in Punjab. Students desirous to take higher studies in India and abroad and those planning for public sector job be cautious. Opt this university if you are able to visit its campus to give exam as any degree outside its campus stands invalid.
